Continuing our celebration of having 6000 FOLLOWERS HECK YES, I’ve compiled some of the best quotes about our favorite ‘Batch: Benedict Cumberbatch :-)
“He’s sweet and generous in an almost childlike way. He’s very easy to screw over. I could take advantage of him playing cards. Actually, I must take advantage of him playing cards. But as an actor, he’s one of the very few people I’ve worked with whose taste I don’t question. Even subconsciously I’m not going, ‘Well, I wouldn’t have done it like that.’ He commits.”
—Martin Freeman
“Benedict is a kind of magnificent, exotic animal as an actor. He doesn’t look like a normal person. He rarely plays normal people. He plays sort of exceptional people.”
—Steven Moffat
“Benedict is bumbly, sweet, affable; the nicest man you’ve met.”
—Mark Gatiss
“He’s a genius. Honestly, he’s just an incredible actor. If you’ve seen his work in Sherlock, he’s just got incredible skills. I just loved his work and thought that he was perfect for what we needed. We were just very lucky.”
— J.J. Abrams
“He is phenomenal. The amount of work that goes into his roles, he has a great work ethic and a genius mind, he is so inspiring. He really raised the bar for me and he had this integrity and genuineness. I feel really blessed to have worked with him. Plus he is so much fun, he’s become a good friend.”
— Adelaide Clemens
“Benedict is such a good guy, he’s a really sweet person and I love that he’s getting success because he’s also a great actor.”
— Simon Pegg
“It was amazing to work with Ben. He’s become a very dear friend of mine and I feel very proud of him from the far, or close distance of being a contemporary of his. He’s having such an incredible moment. I think he’s phenomenally talented. He’s one of the finest actors of our generation and it was a real privilege to work with him.”
— Tom Hiddleston
“Benedict’s fantastic. He’s just so good, .. he’s super talented and we’re just more than grateful to have him on board….He’s got this intensity about him, and he’s obviously extremely intelligent and articulate.”
— Chris Pine
“That’s why he’s now what he is: one of the leading actors in the world.”
— Danny Boyle
“A marvelous young actor.”
— Gary Oldman
“He has a sensibility and an oddness to him… and a directness and a fantastic sense of humor…I respect him on a pretty fundamental level…He is a very generous, very sensitive, very thoughtful, focused, disciplined actor and, you know, when you work with somebody like that it’s just like playing… like Ronnie Scotts with B.B. King… it’s just a question of when or if… you know when someone’s got it and he’s got it….Not everybody runs in the Olympics… Benny should be running in the Olympics. I can see an Olympic runner in him.”
— Tom Hardy
“One minute he’s not quite so handsome. Then the next minute he’s gorgeous. What is that term? Jolie laide. It’s French for ugly-handsome.”
— Una Stubbs on Benedict Cumberbatch’s looks
Another oldie, this one from when I was stagedooring The Recruiting Officer.
Was standing around waiting for Gatiss when I glanced to my left and realised that I recognised the woman beside me. Now, I usually try not to harass people outside cons and stagedoors, but… Una Stubbs, Mrs Hudson herself!? GAH!!
So there I was, hesitating, knowing I would kick myself for not saying something - but still, she was there in private so I really sholdn… oh, fuck, she’s there with Louise Brealey. Ooookay. Breathe. Breathe. Right. They’re Still. There. Private. No. Stalking. But… MRS HUDSON AND MOLLY?! *whiiiiine*
Now, just as I’d gathered enough courage to speak, Mark arrived. And then this photo happened. And then I went outside to hyperventilate…
In the words of Una Stubbs herself (after I’d finally managed to stutter out something unintelligeble about being a huge Sherlock fan): Well you struck gold tonight, dear.
How lucky you are!
